ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young AO said:

?Robert Costanza is a world-class researcher who is a widely recognised leader in his field. I welcome him to the University. I know everybody here will be very excited to have him on board.

?His appointment reflects the commitment of the University to attract the world?s leading researchers ? a central part of ANU By 2020, our strategic plan.?

Director of the Crawford School of Public Policy Professor Tom Kompas added:

?This appointment does much more than add to the already considerable strength the Crawford School has in public policy. It also brings to the school a researcher who is innovative, inspirational and highly distinguished, and one who is regarded ? quite rightly ? as the founding father of the discipline of ecological economics.

?Robert is also a Fellow of the Asia and the Pacific Policy Society, an initiative of the Crawford School which aims to position research on Asia and the Pacific within the mainstream of public policy. He will bring immense experience to the society, the school and the Australian research community.?
